BusinessPartner Displaces Nortel at Merck Merck & Co., Inc is a leading pharmaceutical company that develops, manufactures and markets products to improve human and animal health, directly and through joint ventures. When Merck recently bought a Seattle-based biotech firm, it turned to Avaya BusinessPartner Cross Telecom to update the company's communication system.

Merck's acquisition, Rosetta Inpharmatics LLC, conducts advanced research to enhance drug development. The company was using a Nortel communication system with Octel® voicemail. Merck chose the Avaya S8700 Media Server as the telephony backbone of the company's new facility, along with Avaya Communication Manager call processing software. It also purchased new 4620 digital telephones and will reuse the Octel® voicemail system since it is Merck's standard messaging system.

The pharmaceutical giant chose us over the competition for several reasons.

The IP-enabled solution positions Avaya for future growth within Merck. Our solution provides standardization with Merck's existing technology and the digital phones will reduce day-to-day administration related to moves, adds and changes in the new building, creating greater efficiency.
