Avaya training specialist and instructor

Essential Functions:

The Training Specialist/Instructor is responsible for supporting company goals and strategic direction by collaborating with other team members to develop engaging and effective instructional materials that are functional, intuitive, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles. The position of Training Specialist / Instructor will also be required to plan for instructional activities that include, but are not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects. Course outlines and syllabi to be given to students at the beginning of each course, setting objectives while determining multiple teaching strategies and student activities as well as evaluation of student learning. 

Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable sequence covering all objectives as outlined in the course syllabus and lesson guides. Handle classroom routines which include but not limited to the following:

a. Start and end class on time

b. Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning

c. Administer rules consistently and fairly

d. Establishing and maintaining classroom control

e. Return tests, labs and homework in a timely manner

Use of appropriate assessment tools that include but are not limited to the following:

a. Select, develop and use informal and formal techniques or instruments to measure student learning, modifying
 teaching strategies if needed.

b. Submit and maintain accurate records of attendance.

c. Submit all paperwork in a timely manner.

  • Identify and assess students who are in need of additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives and provide additional instruction to those students outside of class hours, as needed.
  • Deliver training at customer locations, based on the defined business requirements.
  • Analysis of training requirements for assigned customer projects is required by evaluating current business processes and their application. 
  • Maintain project schedules and budgets for course development, identify hardware and software requirements for hands-on exercises and create new lessons including research, writing, editing and defining multimedia for inclusion
  • Apply expertise by partnering with internal business leaders to identify issues, then develop and implement training solutions for the customer.
  • Work with AE’s for custom training consultations.
  • Refer customers to AE’s for subsequent sales leads that arise from training sessions.
  • Maintain expertise and technical competence in applicable field of study.  If credentialed or certified, maintain all certifications and satisfy all requirements of the professional development plan.
  • Requires a moderate degree of technical competence in communication solutions.
  • Requires interfacing with the customer and customer facing organizations.
  • Effectively prioritize, plan, organize, and schedule work activities to meet objectives and goals.
  • Analyze research and resolve a wide range of problems and requirements, from customer needs analysis to researching markets and technology addressed in training solutions.
  • Establish excellent relationships with extended training team and internal customers in order to be able to understand and effectively respond to training development requirements.
  • Apply a systematic instructional design and development model to a wide range of delivery formats in a real world setting.

Required Knowledge:

  • Communicate complex ideas and information effectively, clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and project management skills are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Technical writing skills are a definite plus.
  • Mastery of various presentation tools including, but not limited to, Powerpoint and Camtasia.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as with a cross-functional team.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and apply priority to projects with adaptability and urgency while meeting timelines.
  • Creativity and expertise in generating new ideas for developing engaging training solutions.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult learning theory, and ability to put them in practice.
  • Ability to conduct evaluations for training and other interventions, including data collection and reporting.
  • Conduct training and needs assessment (current & future), recommendations, design and implementation.
  • Ability to work effectively and relate to diverse audiences, roles and organizations.
  • Teaching experience preferred

Experience:                 

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

5+ years of experience in the field or equivalent
