Accessibility is important for all healthcare professionals and their patients. Regardless of location, patients, caregivers, and support staff demand the ability to collaborate and access information in real time. We will look at today’s capabilities to provide real-time media translation in support of the healthcare user community’s mobile access needs.
There is no difference between voice and data for the healthcare provider or the patient. Staff and patients require easy, flexible access to information. The problem is healthcare delivery is a “mobile sport” – people rarely tied to a single location.
It is difficult if not impossible to dictate the user’s endpoints such as: cell, WiFi, landline, pager, PDA, and smartphone to name a few. Devices have limitations like capabilities and location in the case of cell phones.
Often with time dependent information its accuracy is related to timing. The ability to access and collaborate “now” is exacerbated by the fact that people are mobile.
Dynamic Communication Processing, from Cross Telecom, enables the acquisition, transport, and delivery of information using the device(s) and media determined by the user to be most convenient at any point in time.
Using closed loop communication services, DCP provides comprehensive management, tracking and media conversion facilities to assure information is delivered in real-time to the right person at the right time.
Critical Results Reporting: Attending to the needs of patients is a time consuming job for the clinical staff. Nurses and doctors focus on the most pressing needs of their patients – with the patient “in front of them” commanding their full attention. In some instances, the need to respond to a patient’s needs is unknown unless a clinical staff member happens to be looking at the correct information system at the right time. This is particularly true for critical lab results reporting. Nurses and staff can be freed from their tether to the reporting systems and computer displays required to obtain the information when the telecommunication system is an integral part of the information transport system. The telecommunication system can be linked to the lab systems, EMR, and other key healthcare information systems to automatically acquire key information, transport it, and deliver it to the appropriate clinical staff. Using real time media conversion data can be converted to voice (and voice to data) to enable near realtime notification and access to key patient information.
